Introduction

The purpose of the National Space Society of Australia (NSSA) Space Mission Patch Contest is to encourage the creation of a mission patch that can be used by NSSA for the limited use of promoting its non-profit objective of creating a spacefaring civilization. Such use could include the NSSA website, brochures and other promotional materials such as clothing. We believe this use is for the benefit of the future of humanity and we hope and trust that this is a cause and use that artists would support.

Image Subject Matter
  • All artwork must be original work.
  • All submitted art must be a depiction of human space exploration or settlement either in space or on a planet.
  • The art work on the space mission patch must use the words NSSA either on the circumference or within the patch.

Additional details as to acceptable content and how judges will be evaluating the artwork can be found in the
Judging Guidelines for Submitted Artwork document.

Image Technical Specifications
You are free to choose any medium to use for the creation of your artwork, but submissions must be in digital format with recommended dimensions of 1000 pixels by 1000 pixels for a mission patch.

Images that are obviously enlarged to meet the size requirement (with resulting degradation in quality) will be rejected.

Smaller images may be submitted but will be considered only for Honorable Mention.

The initial submitted images must be full size but in
JPEG format and must not exceed 4 megabytes in size (which may require some file compression). If an image is one of the winners of the contest, the artist will be required to submit the original uncompressed
version.

Prizes

All accepted entries will receive certificates of participation. All winning entries will receive certificates of merit and the following prizes (more prizes may be added to this list during the contest):
- First place: $250
- Second place: $150
- Third place: $100

- Up to (six) entries will be selected as honourable mentions and given copies of their work on printed merchandise.

Prizes will only be awarded at the first, second and third levels if qualified entries are judged as meeting the standards for artwork of that award level. It may be that the quality of artwork received in any given year does not meet judging standards as stated per the Judging Guidelines for a particular award level and as such, no prize in that category would be awarded that year.
